Even non-American travelers should bring their money in dollars since the dollar not only is generally accepted all over the country but as well is the only currency you can exchange to the local cordoba. At the borders there is also the possibility of exchanging the currency of neighboring countries but be careful with whom you negotiate.

Since Nicaragua is newly detected as a tourist destination it is still a cheap country for traveling and the costs for food and accommodation is generally lower than in other Central American countries.
