Selva Negra
This private nature reserve is located on the highway between Jinotega and Matagalpa and is popular among travelers that enjoy hiking and watching monkeys. The name is taken from the German Black Forest and the owners are third and fourth generation of German immigrants. The reserve has been built up like a mini resort, accommodation at different prices, picnic areas, restaurant and wedding service are available. There are 14 different trails in 120 hectares of forest and you can easily spend a few days within the area. For those interested in bird watching, there are more than 200 species to be found. In the middle of the reserve there is a coffee farm where you can get a guided tour. You can also visit the flower plantations and cattle farm or practice horseback riding. |
