San Juan del Sur
San Juan del Sur is situated on the Pacific side, 28 kilometers from Rivas and close to the Costa Rican border. It was earlier an important port and fishing village but as time is changing, tourism is now the biggest income for this little village. The beach stretches three kilometers, the sand is white and the sunset extraordinary. Even the surfing is supposed to be good, this attracts many young backpackers and the place fills up with both foreign and Nicaraguan tourists during high season.
From San Juan del Sur you can do several smaller excursions in the beautiful nature of the surrounding area. South of the village you will find La Flor Wildlife Refuge, one of two turtle nesting beaches on the Pacific side of the country and where you, during the season, will have the opportunity to watch the turtles laying their eggs. |
