The Market of Masaya

Masaya is said to be Nicaragua's center of art and culture and if you visit El Mercado Nacional de Artesanias you will definitely understand why. The marketplace was built in 1891 but partly destroyed by fires 1966 and 1978. Most recently it was reconstructed 1997 and is now a safe and comfortable place. Within the walls of this castle like building you will find leatherworks, rugs, furniture and hammocks. If you are lucky you might even get a glimpse of a Nicaraguan dance show or music event.
