Isletas
This 365-island archipelago located southeast of Granada, was created 20,000 years ago due to an eruption of Volcan Mombacho. On one of the islands you will find Fortin de San Pablo, a Spanish fort built to protect Granada from pirate attacks, but as history shows this attempt was rather unsuccessful. There are now a few hundred original inhabitants living in the archipelago and additionally an ever-increasing number of foreigners and Nicaraguans, building their luxury holiday homes on the lush islands. The area provides good opportunities for fishing, swimming, kayaking, boat trips and animal watching. |
